I have to admit, I feel like I learned a TON about basketball this semester. I thought I already knew quite a bit but that was totally false. It seemed like it became more fun to watch the games as the weeks went by because I understood more of what was going on.
This last Saturday Ty's basketball team played in the championship game! It was a pretty big deal. The team they were playing against had won the championship 2 years in a row and Ty really wanted to beat them. They got to play the championship game in the "main gym" which was an even bigger deal because it has more of an arena feel to it than the BYUI Center.
The game started at 8pm.They started out by calling out each player's name and having them jog out onto the court while lights were flashing just like they do in the NBA, and they even made programs which contained both teams' rosters
I'm a terrible wife and FORGOT THE CAMERA so we don't have any pictures of this. Thankfully, Emily took some pictures of Ty so we at least have some documentation of the night. The game was really close the entire time, and Ty's team was down by 1 at halftime.
By the 2nd half, Ty's team started to pick it up a little bit, but they were never up by more than 4 points. It was so intense and everyone that was there was yelling and cheering like crazy the whole time. Ty later told me that it was really hard to hear what his coach was saying during time outs because it was so loud in there.
With less than a minute to go, Ty's team went up by 2. The other team was freaking out and trying to stop time so they kept fouling Ty's team, and his teammates made their free throws. Ty's team ended up winning by 6, a score of 94-88!!! It was SO exciting! Everyone was screaming and cheering and jumping up and down. Way to go Knights! The team then took pictures with their trophy, and everyone on the team was given a t-shirt. These t-shirts are kind of a big deal on campus. Everyone wants to win one!
It was such a fun night and a great experience for Ty! Even though the season is over Ty is still finding ways to play basketball. He has a basketball class every Tuesday and Thursday, and is actually at school playing pick-up right now. Crazy boy :)
