Get Me Out of Here

It all started when I went visiting teaching last night (yes we waited until the last possible minute, but at least we did it. right?) I walked over to my companion's house and then we walked together to our appointment. I was still in my church clothes, but since it had been snowing all day I decided to play it safe and wear flats instead of the heels I had worn to church. As we walked to our appointment my companion and I were just talking and getting to know each other a little better and before I knew it BAM! I was lying on my back on the icy sidewalk. I totally slipped on the ice and fell! It was the worst thing ever. I got up with help from my companion and had to regroup for a second; make sure I hadn't broken any bones. I just kept thinking "how in the world did that happen? How did I end up on the ground?" I am always extremely careful when walking on ice. Just ask Ty. it takes me forever to walk to class because I carefully and strategically place one foot in front of the other to avoid incidents like the one I experienced last night. In the three years I've lived here I've never actually slipped on ice and fallen on my butt until last night. It must've looked just like this when it happened

It was awful. I have a bruise on my elbow, my butt feels a little sore and I had a headache for the rest of the night, but I am so glad I didn't break anything! I've kind of been laughing about it all day today since i'm not in pain anymore. It must've looked just like a movie scene. I cannot wait to get out of this place! This winter has probably been the worst one we've experienced up here. Just 6 more weeks!

On another note, today marks 6 months since we got married!!! It's gone by so fast. We've had a lot of fun getting to know each other better and spending ALL our time together :) I've learned a lot about Ty and about myself through all of the changes that come with marriage, and I'm excited to keep learning and enjoying our life together!

Happy 6 months Ty!

Happy Happy Birthday

Today is Ty’s birthday! We have to go to school today, but we’re going to try and make it a fun day regardless. Ty has requested fish tacos for dinner, confetti cake for dessert, and we have a volleyball game tonight (have I mentioned that we’re on an intramural volleyball team?) so it should be a fun night.
Ty is turning 24 for today, so I’ve decided to write about 24 of my favorite things about him. Here we go!
1.       Ty is possibly the funniest person I have ever met.  He makes me laugh everyday and lightens the mood wherever we go. No wonder his family calls him the “good time guy!”

2.       I have never seen Ty stressed out. This is perfect for me because I stress out enough for the both of us and then some. Nothing is ever a big deal to Ty and he comes up with a solution for everything.
3.       Ty is so good with kids! He loves being around his nieces and nephews and I love watching him interact with them. He’s going to be such a good dad

4.       I love that he plays the guitar. He doesn’t have a lot of free time to play but I just think it’s so cute when he does. The first time he played the guitar for me was on my birthday 2 years ago when he surprised me and came to Reno (we had just started dating and he won big time brownie points that day). I’ll have to write the whole story down in detail later, but I think about it every time he plays the guitar now. So cute!
5.       Ty is so willing to help out around the house. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, whatever it is he is more than happy to do it. And let me tell you, it is SO nice to have a husband that is so helpful.

6.       Ty is always in a good mood in the morning. I wake up a little earlier than he does (because it takes me way longer to get ready) but once he wakes up he always says some variation of the words “hey baby” or “good morning.” Good way to start the day? I think so!
7.       Ty loves his family! He loves going home and seeing everyone, and when we’re in Rexburg he is always looking at their blogs and seeing what they are up to. He has amazing parents and siblings and looks up to every single one of them!

8.       I love Ty’s obsession with sports (most of the time). I will admit, sometimes I feel like if I hear the names Brett Favre or Carmelo Anthony one more time I will scream, but Ty could be into worse things right? I love that Ty has found something that he loves so much (second to his wife of course) and I really admire how much he knows about literally every sport. He’s found an interest and has really embraced it, and I think that’s pretty great.
9.       I love that Ty loves to cuddle! Especially in this weather, I don’t know what I would do without a cuddle buddy. Thank you Ty, for keeping me warm in the winter and letting me bury my face into your chest when we watch intense movies!

10.   I love that Ty can pick out an outfit for himself and look good. Some guys could really use some help, but not mine. He always matches and even irons his button ups before going to school. Tell me you’re not impressed…
11.   I love that Ty loves the gospel. I have really enjoyed being able to go to Sunday School together now that we’re married because I can ask him questions whenever I want. He’s so willing to share his knowledge and his testimony with me, and I’m so grateful for that. He loved his mission and I can tell whenever he talks about it that it strengthened his testimony tremendously and I’m so grateful for that.

12.   I love that Ty is so easy going. Sometimes this can be problematic because he is always “fine with whatever”, and I’m way too indecisive for anyone’s good. We spend a lot of time playing this game:
     “What do you wanna do?”
“ I don’t know, whatever. What do you wanna do?”
     “I don’t know.”
We’re really good at it. But every once in a while I know exactly what I want to do, and Ty is always ok with it. And I love that.
13.   I love that Ty is so active. He plays some sort of sport all year long. Mostly basketball, but every once in a while he’ll switch it up. I love it because it motivates me to get out and be active too, and playing sports with him is always so fun. Being on a volleyball team together has been a blast!

14.   Ty always knows what I’m thinking. It still amazes me sometimes. I love it though because it’s like we have a secret language or something. We can just look at each other and he knows exactly what I’m thinking, and he says literally word for word what I was about to say. Kind of crazy. But awesome J
15.   I love that Ty still keeps in touch with childhood friends. I think it’s so great that they’ve kept in touch all this time. They don’t talk very often, but they don’t have to in order to stay close! I love hearing stories about when they were younger and all the crazy things they did together. I hope they stay friends forever.

16.   I love that Ty wants to become a marriage and family counselor. I think this fits his personality so well. He is a great listener and always gives good advice. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
17.   I love that Ty is all business when it comes to road trips. We average about 2 stops during our 10 hour drive from Rexburg to Reno. I love it because we get home faster and I don’t feel like we waste any time. Ty’s all about efficiency. I love it.

18.   I love that Ty winks at me all the time. It’s one of the things that attracted me to him when we first started hanging out. It’s so subtle but it makes me feel so special when he winks at me. Especially when he does it in the middle of a basketball game. Super. Cute.
19.   I love that Ty and my family are close. My brother LOVES having Ty around to play basketball with and to do other manly things with and he always keeps my mom and sister laughing. I’m glad they’re able to see why I love him so much!

20.   I love that Ty is a good student. He works hard and gets good grades, and it makes me want to do well in school too. I love knowing that he wants to do well so that he can get into grad school and ultimately provide for his family. So sweet!
21.   Even though Ty doesn’t like to dance, he will if I ask him to. Sometimes he’ll just start dancing with me in the kitchen and it always makes me smile. I love it.

22.   Everyone I know says everybody like “everybuddy,” but not Ty. He says every-body. And I love it. I think it’s so cute and I always ask him to say it again. He doesn’t usually repeat it because I think he gets embarrassed. Don’t be embarrassed Ty, I think it’s so cute!
23.   I love that Ty is always willing to go on walks with me. And he holds my hand the whole time.
24.   I love that Ty loves me! I love that he shows his love for me every day in so many ways. We have so much fun together and I love sharing my life with him.

Happy Birthday Ty, I hope it’s great! I love you so much!

Valentine's Day

It's kind of a bummer when you're in school and Valentine's Day is on a Monday. Ty and I both had classes all day, but we tried to be cute and sends texts that said "happy valentines day!" all day long. When we got home Ty told me I could take a nap while he cooked dinner. If there are two things in this world that I love (besides Ty of course) they are taking naps after a long day at school and not having to cook dinner. Last year Ty cooked dinner for me too, but it was a wayyyyyy bigger deal this year. It's funny how little things like that are so exciting once you're married. I woke up to a delicious smelling meal and the table all set up like so

Ty made chicken parmesan and spaghetti with alfredo sauce. YUM! We had a really nice dinner and when we were done Ty brought out dessert...

Chocolate covered strawberries!!! Oh my goodness, they were so good!

Then, Ty topped it all off by cleaning the kitchen/doing the dishes, and telling me that he booked a flight to Utah for me to go to Women's Conference at the end of April! I am so excited! After dessert it was time to come back to reality and finish some homework. But don't worry, we were able to finish all our homework and still have some time left over to snuggle before bed =). All in all it was a pretty good day. I love my valentine!

rexBURRRRRg

Hey guys. I feel like I've been terrible at this blogging thing this semester. I think I've been avoiding it because we haven't really done anything noteworthy. But it's not because we're lame and don't want to do anything, it's because it is FREEZING outside and it hurts to breathe in the air! The other day we were walking to class in the morning and we were pretty miserable. It's pretty normal for us to be cold on our way to class but this time it was just brutal. We were bundled and wearing lots of layers, but our legs were still super cold and our ears and mouths were numb. When I got to class everyone was talking about how cold it was outside, and our teacher chimed in and told us that all the schools in the county had been cancelled for the day because it was -30 degrees outside (except for ours. lame!). Don't worry though, it warmed up. By mid-day it got up to 4 degrees. Luckily, this weekend has been a lot better. We have been enjoying the sun and the amazing 30 degree weather. We didn't even wear jackets yesterday! I wanted to be able to bask in the sun for a little bit so we decided to take some pictures of our little town. This is what Rexburg looks like right now. It's looked like this since January, and it will look like this when we leave in April.

See the roads? This is one thing I'm very thankful for. The City is pretty good about plowing the roads, which makes it a little less scary to drive around. However, sometimes it'll snow like 3 feet overnight, and there's nowhere to put all of that snow. As a result, there are massive piles of snow all over. This mountain is in the apartment complex across the street from ours. If you look closely, you can see a car parked behind it. The snow mountain is as tall as the car!

here are some more piles

These next few pictures we took in our church parking lot

and this is the back of the parking lot

Walking on this in high heels on Sundays is quite the adventure.

This is a picture of our school's football stadium in the fall

And this is what it looks like now.

Yes, those are footprints. I'm not really sure why people would want to hang out in knee deep snow...

I bet you're all dying to come visit us now huh? Let's be honest, this weather can really be depressing. Sometimes the sun is only out for a few hours, and we're usually in class when it's out so we don't really get to see it. It's not very enjoyable to be out in the cold, some people have found ways to be creative and do some fun things with the snow!

We can't wait to hang out in the warm Coloma weather this summer!
