Visiting Ty

In the middle of June Trey and I took a quick trip to Utah to visit Ty. I'm so grateful that we were able to see each other about every 2 weeks this summer.

Trey was SO HAPPY to see his dad. I love how much they love each other.

We were in Utah for about 4 days. We took a tour of Ty's new office and tried to find a place to live. No such luck, but it was nice to get an idea of where we wanted to end up.

We also spent lots of time with cousins! I am so happy that Trey is going to grow up around lots of family. They already have so much fun together!

And while in Utah, Trey had hid first pool day! He had a lot of fun, he seemed to really enjoy the water but also loved just watching everyone around him. Typical Trey.

We had such a great time and loved getting to explore our new town!

Trey at 9 Months

Trey turned 9 months in June. I'm so glad I've been keeping notes on my phone about little milestones each month since I am so terrible at staying up to date on this blog!

At 9 months, Trey:

- has learned to drink from a straw! And it is the cutest thing I've ever seen. It's also been very helpful since he makes less of a mess when he wants a drink, and I think it helps him feel independent that he can get some water whenever he wants!

-still loves to read books. He will find a book and hold it up to anyone that is close by so that they'll read it to him over and over and over again. I take books with us everywhere we go, and we love going to the bookstore.

-has discovered stairs. He takes his time and gets tired/bored before he makes it to the top, but he's definitely interested in working on those large motor skills! He also does this hilarious bear crawl when he's in the grass. Not a fan of the green stuff, I guess!

-has started to babble. A lot! He's been making noises for a while, but now it's starting to sound like he's trying to talk more with a purpose. It's fun to watch him exercise his little tongue and other mouth muscles.

-has started to walk with a little pushcart! He pulls himself up to the little handle and slowly (and awkwardly) puts one foot in front of the other. It's a work in progress!

I sound like a broken record, but we love this little boy!!

A New Adventure

Once we found out that Ty would not be returning to the Stampede, we immediately decided that we wanted to move closer to family. We packed up all our things and left Idaho for good about 10 days later. We moved in with my parents because Ty had some interviews in Reno which was exciting!

This next little part is what Ty wrote for a family newsletter about the last month:

We spent most of the month looking for jobs. Job hunting is the worst. I struggled with the dilemma of finding something quick that I may not really want, or holding out to find a situation that would really work out for us. I surprisingly had a lot of immediate success in finding interviews. I applied to many places and had different phone calls and interviews. Christi and I were very happy about having potential opportunities close to family.

BUT, I saw a job posting with Vivint in Lehi, UT. I was able to get a phone interview, then they asked me to go to Utah to interview in person. So I drove out there (7 hours across northern Nevada is its own kind of hell) in hopes that things would work out. The interview went well and they wanted another interview a few days later. They told me they would call me the next week to let me know. 2 hours after the 2nd interview they called me and offered me the position.

This position was the best situation for many reasons compared to any other thing I applied for in the past month. Christi and I have always talked about the idea of living in Utah eventually and we were both ok with that.  Christi has really enjoyed being in Reno with her family, so she and Trey will stick around a little more this summer. I'll head out to Utah and look for a good place for us to live.

We feel very relieved to not be in the same work environment in Idaho. I will be working almost half the hours and making almost double. The company is growing fast and that doesn't appear to be changing any time soon. We will be close to family as well as many friends we made from our college days. We feel very blessed that things happened the way they did.

Even though being apart for the summer is not ideal, we really did not want to rush into a housing situation that we would regret immediately just because we were desperate to find something. We are grateful for family that is so willing to let us stay with them while we find our own place to live!

So that's the plan. Ty drove out to Utah yesterday and started his new job this morning. It's amazing to see how things have worked out for us. It's scary to move and not have a plan, but the Lord is so in control and knows what we need better than we do! We could not have asked for a better situation for our family. We're excited to see what this new adventure holds for us; so far it's been nothing but good things!

Multicultural Night!

A couple of weeks ago the Spanish branch hosted a multicultural night for the branch, a family ward and a YSA ward that all meet in the same building. It was so much fun! We put together some last minute outfits to be festive.

I was so excited that Trey finally got to wear his Mexico jersey, my cousin gave it to us when I was pregnant and it finally fits Trey! He looks so cute in it.

Everyone was asked to bring souvenirs or clothing from their country to display and a food for everyone to try. Some of the countries that were represented were Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Venezuela, Germany Scotland, Ireland, England and China.

I love the branch because everyone comes from different countries and they are all so proud of their culture and heritage. It was so fun for everyone to come together and get to show off the things that make their countries special.

After everyone had a chance to eat and look around, a few members of the branch performed traditional dances from their native countries/regions. It was so awesome!

It was a great night and I'm so glad we got to be a part of it!

Baby Trey: 8 months

A quick update on Trey, who changes so much so quickly! He has been such a busy little guy lately. This month he learned how to pull himself up and stand. He grabs on to pretty much anything in sight and pulls himself up! He hardly ever wants to sit anymore, and is constantly climbing all over us.

This month has been a rough one as far as teething goes. Trey now has two teeth on the bottom and has THREE teeth all coming in on the top. We've had quite a few fussy days, sleepless nights and the occasional teething fever. I'm going to miss his little two-teeth smile!

Trey is not a fan of baby food. I think it's a texture thing. He gags with pretty much any baby food we give him, but will eat regular food no problem. His favorite food is black beans, our little Mexicarter! he also likes chicken, rice, avocado, and bananas.

He's been working on picking food up by himself and putting it in his mouth. He gets better everyday!

Trey has also started making this scrunchy face that is hilarious. He usually does it when he thinks something is funny or something is making him happy!

He keeps us busy and constantly entertained! We love you little buddy!
